Americans Tired of Lawsuit Abuse. A nonpartisan political organization dedicated to highlighting the need for meaningful legal reforms at the state level through issue advocacy and grassroots activities.
American Tort Reform Association. While not focused on medical liability reform as such, ATRA a leading resource on civil justice reform issues in general, including a yearly listing of “judicial hellholes.”
Californians Allied for Patient Protection. CAPP is a coalition formed to protect California’s historic MICRA reforms of medical liability laws. Good in-depth information on MICRA and its beneficial effects on patient health care in California make this site nationally relevant.
Coalition for Affordable and Reliable Health Care. CARH is an organization of hospitals, long-term care providers, businesses, health care professionals and concerned citizens dedicated to resolving the current health care crisis through real, commonsense medical liability reform.
Health Coalition on Liability and Access. HCLA is a coalition of physicians, hospitals, insurers, businesses, producers of medicines and health care consumers advocating medical liability reform as the key to ensuring patient access to affordable health care.
Institute for Legal Reform. ILR, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is a national campaign to reform our civil justice system, including medical liability law. See their interactive map ranking the fairness of each state’s civil court system here.
Pew Charitable Trusts Project on Medical Liability in Pennsylvania. The Project provides decision-makers with objective information on medical liability. While focused on Pennsylvania, its in-depth research and reports give the project national relevance.

Think Tanks
Manhattan Institute. New York City’s leading public policy think tank’s Center for Legal Policy produces a wealth of information on civil justice reform. Check out their 2005 report, Trial Lawyers, Inc.: Health Care examining the big business of medical liability lawsuits and their negative effect on our nation’s health care.
opensecrets.org, a service of the Center for Responsive Politics, provides a useful chart of trial lawyer campaign contributions in each election cycle since 1990.
Medical Organizations
Alliance of Specialty Medicine. The Alliance is a coalition of 12 national medical specialty societies dedicated to the development of sound federal health care policy, including Medicare reform, patient safety and medical liability reform.
American Association of Neurological Surgeons. AANS has specific information and resources on liability issues for neurological surgeons.
American College of Cardiology. The ACC website has an advocacy center with links to news, updates, tools, and resources on medical liability reform.
American College of Emergency Physicians. ACEP’s national report card assesses support for emergency services in each of the 50 states, including the medical liability environment, access, quality and patient safety, and public health and safety.
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Members can fill out ACOG’s 2006 Liability Survey online.
American College of Surgeons. ACS has an informative section on liability reform with useful links and an action center where surgeons can contact their Senators and download postcards for patients to send to Congress.
American Medical Association. The AMA’s resource page on medical liability is here.
Congress of Neurological Surgeons. The CNS website has links to DMLR videos and ProtectPatientsNow.
Council of Neurological State Societies. The Washington Committee of CSNS, founded by AANS and CNS in 1984, is a leading advocate of federal liability reform.
The Doctors Company is a national, physician-owned medical liability insurance carrier. The website carries extensive information on medical liability, including many articles written by the Chairman and CEO, Richard E. Anderson.
Physician Insurers Association of America. PIAA’s Government Relations Office is a leading resource of accurate, fact-based information on medical liability insurance issues. Take a look at their public statement refuting the trial-attorney funded study purporting to show that large profits, rather than the medical liability crisis, are the cause of skyrocketing doctors’ premiums.
Society of Thoracic Surgeons. STS provides information on lawsuit abuse reform and a legislative action center.
